Apple Maps fails miserably, removes and distorts popular monuments and shows dangerously wrong navigation instructions

Posted: 20 Sep 2012 10:03 PM PDT

Apple is known for it's finer details and perfection, but this time they have failed miserably. The removal of Google Maps and introduction of Apple Maps in iOS 6 has resulted in nothing but chaos and a lot of bad press for Apple.

Apple's new maps is a major disappointment internationally as it lacks Transit function for 51 countries, traffic updates for 24 countries, and Street View in 41 countries - Totaling, 63 countries with a user-base of 4.5 billion people which had these features previously available in iOS 5. But that is not all, even American users are having a tough time using "buggy" Apple Maps, the maps are so faulty that they have not only distorted or removed popular monuments but are dangerously displaying navigation directions from roads to canals and non-suitable terrains.

Apple Map fail

In the examples below Apple Maps shows roads "obliterated", and Statue of liberty is simply vanished. In the following image you can see map detail difference between iOS 5 Google Maps and iOS 6 Apple Maps, this is not all Apple Maps is showing dangerously wrong navigation into a canal !

These widespread errors have resulted in twitter hash tag #ios6apocalypse climbing up the charts with user submissions, more buggy images of Apple Maps below.

Does clicking “Like” amount to Speech? – By Karn Jani

"When a Facebook User Likes a Page on Facebook, she engages in speech protected by the First Amendment."1 That's what Facebook has to say about the "like" option which is the only source of expressing your agreement with the comment, photo or a link posted, other than commenting separately altogether. Whether it's 'communicative imagery' or 'core speech' or both? Can clicking 'like' result in losing your job? Well, that's what makes things interesting.

In this case2, Plaintiff Daniel Ray Carter, Jr. alleges that Defendant B.J. Roberts, the elected Sheriff of Hampton, Virginia, fired him from his position as deputy sheriff because he Liked the Facebook campaign Page of Roberts's challenger, Mr. Jim Adams, in the 2009 election, and that his firing violated his rights under the First Amendment. So, does clicking 'like' actually amount to saying something in affirmative as amount to speech under the constitutional protection?

Samsung once again pokes fun at Apple fanatics in Galaxy S III Commercial aimed at iPhone 5 frenzy

Posted: 20 Sep 2012 06:04 PM PDT

Apple products have an outstanding fan-following, an much as that they are referred to as Cult Of Apple. And since every coin has two faces there is an equally opposite section who do not agree with how Apple ties down users in their closed eco-system, dictating what is right for them and what not, and limiting usability.

Bitter relations between Samsung and Apple are in news these days over the ongoing legal battle, and the reason is they both offer competing products. In it's newest Galaxy SIII commercial Samsung has once again poked fun at Apple iPhone buyers who are lining up to get the latest iPhone 5 from Apple stores.

The commercial is toned similar to usual Apple marketing language, highlighting the fact that "Apple fans" are lining-up to get the new headphone jack's location, the new Lightning dock connector which will make their existing adapters obsolete, the lack of NFC, and other features iPhone 5 just doesn't match up to Samsung's flagship Galaxy S III.

Jailbreaking iOS 6 final and manually installing Cydia

Posted: 20 Sep 2012 04:05 AM PDT

Before downloading and installing any iOS update, majority of jailbroken iDevice users would first research whether a jailbreak is available or not for that particular update. And with the recent public final release of Apple iOS 6 - we have once again had to make the decision whether to upgrade or not from a "jailbrokenability" point of view ?

And the answer is - "Do not upgrade if you have A5 chip based iDevice (like Apple iPhone 4S) as there is no iOS 6 jailbreak for them yet, and if you have an A4 chip based device like Phone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 4th you can have an tethered jailbreak for now.". While it is strongly advisable NOT TO UPGRADE to iOS 6 if you want to retain your jailbreak, the process to jailbreak A4 devices and manually installing Cydia is posted after the jump with details of announcement by iPhone Dev Team on the topic.
